Preparations are under way at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) for the 9th ‘Your Europe, Your Say!’ event. This event consists in inviting pupils, in their penultimate year at any type of secondary school from the 28 EU Member States and the five candidate countries, to visit Brussels. The event gives the pupils the chance to find out about the EU and to understand the EESC's role within it. It is also a unique opportunity for young people to take part in a plenary assembly-style debate on a specific subject in a multicultural environment, putting forward arguments, negotiating and reaching a compromise.

Radio propaganda
A novel interdisciplinary research project addressed the topic of radio propaganda, focusing on Radio Bari. This was the first radio station to broadcast in Arabic, approaching Arabs and challenging British and French colonial power. It has added to knowledge on instruments of modern propaganda and radio broadcasts as a cultural and transnational experience.

Managing and implementing the ERDF and Cohesion Fund
Better competencies for better results. A new EU Competency Framework is helping public officials to develop their skills. Managing and implementing the ERDF and Cohesion Fund requires a wide set of operational, professional and management competencies, also going beyond the requirements of the 2014-2020 regulations. In order to support Member State administrations managing and implementing the Funds in evaluating and strengthening these competencies, the Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) has developed the Framework and a web-based Self-Assessment Tool.

Euronews - Real Economy: the episode shows the city of Katowice in Poland and its successful transition from coal and heavy industry sites to diversify its economic activities and develop R&D. Silesia has been chosen by the EU Commission as a candidate for the pilot initiative “Coal Regions in Transition Platform”, launched recently. March episode will focus on the EU’s richest regions. Only through investment can the EU show it is making a difference in citizens’ lives. With 1/3 of the EU budget and national contributions, Cohesion Policy is the EU’s most powerful investment tool.

Developing novel materials for innovative tech
Developing novel materials for innovative tech. This ERDF-funded project in Germany is financing the development of particularly strong and extremely light novel materials for innovative applications across a range of sectors. Together with the German federal government, the ERDF is supporting the country’s Thermoplastic Composites Technology Centre with EUR 10 million to develop new, innovative and improved materials. The funding will be invested in new production facilities and laboratories at the Institute for Composite Materials in Kaiserslautern.
