Nobel Prize winner: This epidemic has so far been a close shave for humanity

Some COVID-19 patients have low oxygen levels without being aware of it. This ‘silent hypoxia’ endangers patients and puzzles clinicians. We spoke with Sir Peter Ratcliffe, Nobel winner in Medicine for his “discoveries of how cells sense and adapt to oxygen availability.” The European Research Council supported his groundbreaking work from 2008 to 2013.
