European research continues to push the boundaries of knowledge. This year again, European and EU-funded scientists were awarded the Nobel Prizes in Medicine and Physics. πŸ’‘ πŸ‡«πŸ‡· πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺ Anne L'Huillier and πŸ‡­πŸ‡Ί πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ή Ferenc Krausz were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for experimental methods to generate attosecond pulses of light. The EU has backed their research substantially for the past 15 years. πŸ”¬ πŸ‡­πŸ‡Ί πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Katalin KarikΓ³ won the Nobel Prize in Medicine. Although not EU-funded, her pioneering work helped European Research Council grantee Ugur Sahin develop one of the first COVID-19 vaccines.
