Preparations are under way at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) for the 9th ‘Your Europe, Your Say!’ event. This event consists in inviting pupils, in their penultimate year at any type of secondary school from the 28 EU Member States and the five candidate countries, to visit Brussels. The event gives the pupils the chance to find out about the EU and to understand the EESC's role within it. A novel interdisciplinary research project addressed the topic of radio propaganda, focusing on Radio Bari. This was the first radio station to broadcast in Arabic, approaching Arabs and challenging British and French colonial power. Developing novel materials for innovative tech

Developing novel materials for innovative tech. This ERDF-funded project in Germany is financing the development of particularly strong and extremely light novel materials for innovative applications across a range of sectors. Together with the German federal government, the ERDF is supporting the country’s Thermoplastic Composites Technology Centre with EUR 10 million to develop new, innovative and improved materials. The funding will be invested in new production facilities and laboratories at the Institute for Composite Materials in Kaiserslautern.

European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy

Baltic Sea Region a frontrunner in battling plastic waste in the seas. In January 2018, the European Commission adopted the first-ever ‘European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy’. The macro-regional EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) is already in full speed fighting against plastic marine litter. The BLASTIC project, an EUSBSR flagship under policy area ‘Hazards’, aims to reduce plastic waste and, thereby, the inflow of hazardous substances into the Baltic Sea by mapping and monitoring the amounts of litter in the aquatic environment.
