EU humanitarian funding supports Syrian mothers in Jordan

Jordan hosts more than 660,000 people who fled Syria. International Medical Corps (IMC), an EU humanitarian partner, is the main medical provider in Azraq, a Jordanian camp sheltering close to 40 000 Syrian refugees. The organisation runs primary healthcare clinics, as well as the only fully equipped hospital inside the camp. Together, the facilities provide more than 21 000 monthly consultations. The EU funds Azraq Hospital’s maternity ward, which has cared for thousands of Syrian mothers and babies since it opened in 2014. Last year alone, the IMC team in Azraq Hospital helped more than 1 500 women give birth. One of them is Rasha, who was assisted by Basmah, a Jordanian midwife, and Reyhab, a Syrian volunteer.
