European Commission is taking steps to put into practice the historic High Seas Treaty signed last year, enabling the creation of Marine Protected Areas beyond national jurisdiction. The rules will ensure smooth implementation across all EU countries: 🐠 Requiring environmental assessments before any activities in international waters, creating fair conditions for all parties. 👩‍🔬 Supporting EU researchers working on marine genetic resources across borders by reducing legal barriers. By 2030, this will help conserve and manage at least 30% of the ocean, leading to cleaner waters, thriving fish populations and a stronger blue economy. This is our best way to protect our oceans.
