Seven hills, or six? Plovdiv, like Rome, is known as the “City of Seven Hills.” But, in fact, there are only six. Plovdiv, might have lost one of its hills but it won the honour of being the EU's European Capital of Culture 2019 alongside Matera, Italy.The New York Times just listed it as among the 52 places to go in 2019. On 21 May 1992, both EU Habitats Directive and LIFE programme were approved. Natura 2000 is the largest network of protected areas in the world! 💚 In the EU it represents 27,800 sites, 18% of land, 9.5% of marine areas, 2,000 species and 230 habitat types. The EU keeps on protecting it – there is no future without nature.

Before updating the rules to protect EU producers against unfair competition, the European Commission consulted hundreds of producers, importers, associations and authorities in dialogues, a public conference and online surveys. Thanks to the new rules, the EU can more effectively impose anti-dumping and anti-subsidies measures on unfair international competitors.

Located in a run-down site near a former railway building, the RepTár aviation museum in Szolnok, Hungary is a unique attraction housing some unique pieces of aviation history. With a little help from the EU, the opening of the museum in 2016 has created 30 jobs and increased the city’s attractiveness to tourists.

Energy security is one of the key success stories of our transatlantic cooperation and one where we both have a keen mutual interest. It is therefore our common objective to further deepen our energy cooperation. Natural gas will remain an important component of the EU's energy mix in the near future as we move towards cleaner sources of energy. Given our heavy dependence on imports, U.S. liquefied natural gas, if priced competitively, could play an increasing and strategic role in EU gas supply.
